Field Trip

A mining field trip to the city of Val d’Or will take place after the symposium on the 18th to enable mine visits on the 19th. Val d’Or is 550 km north west of Montreal. The region is called the Abitibi and is known for its gold mines. Participants can visit to an open pit mine, OR, an underground mine, as both visits will take place at the same time in the morning of the 19th. Space is limited, therefore advance reservation is required, indicating the preferred mine visit. Departure is on Thursday August 18 at 9:30 am in front of the New Residence Hall (symposium venue). The trip is approximately 7 hours, including 1 hour stop for lunch (included in the fee) in the town of Mont-Laurier. Dinner is provided in Val d’Or (included in the fee). The next day, August 19, the bus will leave the hotel at 6:30am (continental breakfast is provided) to take the participants to the mines. The return time to Montreal is approximately 9 pm on Friday the 19th.

Fee: $495 including taxes. This covers transportation, hotel accommodation (double occupancy) and meals.
